Boldness and Persistence!

Updated: Aug 23, 2021

There are times when I am praying that I think God must wish I would change the record because I have been asking for the same things repeatedly. Reminds me of when the boys were small and they wanted something that was important to them. If I did not provide it immediately or on the off chance said “no”, they kept at me until I finally gave in. Their persistence won out and they received what they asked for.

The good news, for me, is many scriptures tell us to be persistent. Luke 11:5-8 tells us a story of a friend asking a friend for bread, the friend says no but verse eight reads “I tell you, even though he will not get up and give him anything just because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence and boldness he will get up and give him whatever he needs.”

There were occasions where the boys wanted something but what they were requesting would not have been good for them and the answer stayed no. As their Mother, was my job was to keep them safe, provide for what they needed, but to use discernment when considering their wants.

For many years, I just wanted what I wanted and I wanted it yesterday. As I am maturing in my Salvation, I am becoming more and more aware that sometimes the timing may be off for what I am asking and that although later in life I may get it, but as of right now, the answer is no. I have also begun to pray a bit differently because hardships and heartaches will always be part of life and asking God to take it all away is not realistic. God has the power to do anything, but it has been through some of the worst times that I have learned lessons and been shown God’s love and loyalty. My prayers now have changed to asking God for whatever it is I am going to need to be triumphant and to stay faithful to him during the hard times.

My next piece of work on myself is to ask God for things I can hardly imagine. In my power, they would be impossible. One thing that I have to keep in the forefront of my mind as I move forward in these next steps is that if it isn’t in God’s will for me, it isn’t because he doesn’t want me to have it, it is that he knows what is best for me and he has something greater for my life. I also have to remember to ask it in God’s name.

Luke 11:13 says “If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?”

Matthew 7:11 repeats the promise of Luke 11:13 by saying “If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him.”

Luke and Matthew, authors in the Bible, tell us the same thing.

Asking or acting in God’s power is amazing and doing it with boldness, not arrogance – there is a major difference, in knowing you are an heir to the Thorne and a child of God is a feeling like no other.

Proverbs 28:1 reads, “The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion”.

Ephesians 3:12 says, “In whom we have boldness and access with confidence through our faith in him”.

These two verses make me very glad, as my nature is to be bold, and I now realize I can use it for the glorification of God. The years I spent feeling inadequate and that I was a mistake because I did not fit in were years wasted. Attempting to suit the world is now a thing of the past. God made me this way and even though there is work to be done to smooth out the edges that aren’t supposed to be there, the fundamental parts of my personality are just as they are supposed to be.

Just a few months ago, if someone asked me to say what I liked about myself I could not come up with one thing. Now, I can list off many attributes that I do like about me, and all of this recognized by spending time with my creator. We are all masterpieces’ of God’s Art and no one is a mistake. The only mistakes show up when we set our eyes on a broken and evil world and try to conform and fit in. No more conforming for this Chick. I have never fit in and God has shown me that I will never fit in because as a Child of God I was born to Stand Out!

My goal is to ask persistently for things God sees as beneficial to his plan for my life, to walk boldly in the promises of God’s word, and to Stand Out and apart from the world as a light to someone lost. God loves and created me, he loves and created everyone, you want peace and love, just come home, God can and will change your life.

I am a prime example of how God's unconditional love can change your life!
